My heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in the official opening of the Vietnamese Museum of Australia.
It was wonderful to join a strong Queensland contingent who travelled from Queensland to Melbourne for the official opening.
Last year, Australia remembered 50 years of Vietnamese settlement in Australia following the fall of Saigon to the communists. Between 400,000 and 600,000 were lost seeking freedom. Under the leadership of former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, Australia opened its arms.
Our Vietnamese Australian community is now part of our Australian story.
In attendance was Mrs Tammy Fraser and members of the Fraser family. The Vietnamese Australia community will always remember the pivotal role of Malcolm Fraser and he is celebrated in the museum.
Please take the time to visit the museum. You will be very moved by the stories and the displays. The history of the Vietnamese people is also told.
Congratulations to the CEO, Tammy Nguyen, the Board, the staff, the volunteers and the donors from all over Australia who made the museum a reality.
