On 24 February 2022, Russia launched an illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine.
For nearly four years the Ukrainian people have fought valiantly against the Russian invaders.
Early this evening, I attended a candlelight vigil hosted by the Ukrainian Community of Queensland Inc.
Queensland has had a very strong Ukrainian community with an influx of migrants after World War Two. The community has provided outstanding support to Ukrainians in need.
The vigil honoured the lives lost, condemned Russia’s ongoing violence and aggression, and reaffirmed our solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
It was also a powerful moment to acknowledge and give thanks for the compassion shown by Queensland and Australia in welcoming and supporting Ukrainians displaced by the war.
