It was a pleasure to attend the St George Chinese Community Memorial Committee’s Fundraising Dinner and Special Memorial Ceremony.
The committee does important work in commemorating the Amoy shepherds who came to Queensland from China in the 1800’s to work as shepherds in the area around St George.
They came at a time of famine to help their families. Not one made it back home.
If you go to St George you can see a memorial to commemorate their contribution to Queensland.
It was great to be in attendance with the Mayor of Balonne Shire, Councillor Samantha O’Toole.
