Shadow Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Senator Bridget McKenzie visited Brisbane Valley Highway today with Senator for Queensland, Paul Scarr and the Liberal National Party candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg.
Senator Scarr said, “I have called for the Labor Government to match the additional $20 million of funding put forward by the new LNP State Government for improvements to the Brisbane Valley Highway. In response, Labor has referred to past funding commitments. This is not about past funding commitments, but obtaining the additional funding required to fix this highway.”
“Labor has held this seat for 18 years. During 14 of those 18 years, there was a Labor State Government, and this highway is still in a deplorable state. It is not good enough. The people of the Somerset region deserve better.”
Despite numerous calls from Senator Scarr asking for the Albanese Labor Government to match the additional $20 million commitment from the LNP State Government to improve the Brisbane Valley Highway, the Federal Labor Government has failed to positively respond.
Senator Bridget McKenzie says “As we have seen over the past three years, the Albanese Labor Government is long on promises but comes up short on delivery. Whether it’s the Bruce Highway, the Sunshine Coast rail line, the Amberley Interchange or the Brisbane Valley Highway, Labor fails to deliver”.
LNP Candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg who worked for an agribusiness in the Somerset Region said “There are no excuses as to why these areas of the Brisbane Valley Highway have not already been fixed. Labor has held this seat for 18 years. I was so pleased to have an opportunity to show Bridget first hand why these upgrades are so important for the people of the Somerset Region and why additional funds need to be fast tracked.”
