Senator Paul Scarr has got firmly behind the Brisbane Jets in their bid to join the National Rugby League (NRL) competition by offering to drive Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman Peter V’landys AM, around the region to gauge support for the Jets
Meeting in Springfield with Brisbane Jets NRL Bid 23 Director Chris Mangan in Springfield, Senator Scarr said as a Rugby League lover based in the Greater Ipswich Region, he was pleased to provide a strong letter of support for the Jets.
“I’ve written to Peter V’landys outlining my wholehearted support for the Jets to join NRL in 2023,” Sen Scarr said.
“The Jets’ plan dovetails perfectly with the extraordinary growth occurring in this region – through an arc including Logan, the South West Corridor, to Ipswich and up to Toowoomba. This is the fastest growing region in Queensland, and it is Rugby League heartland.
“There’s no doubt a local team would be a fantastic success, and I’ve made an offer to Peter (V’landys) to personally drive him around this region so he too can be inspired by the extraordinary growth and hear for himself the level of support for the Jets and Rugby League.”
Sen Scarr commended the Brisbane Jets for their vision to become the NRL’s 17th team.
“I have absolutely no doubt a team linked to this catchment area would be a fantastic success.
“I went to school in this region. I know how much they love their rugby league. There is also a great deal of commercial activity which could be mobilised to provide the team with sponsorship and support.”
