FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield, January 25, 2024 –Thousands of Ipswich residents will be worse off following the Labor Government’s broken election promise regarding the stage three Tax cuts.
Locally based Senator Paul Scarr pointed to 2021 census data which indicates that over three thousand Ipswich residents will pay more tax because of Prime Minister Albanese’s broken promise.
Senator Paul Scarr said: “Prime Minister Albanese and the Treasurer promised over one hundred times before and after the last election that they would not change stage three of the tax cuts. Now the Labor Government has broken that election promise. It is a disgrace.”
Senator Scarr pointed to 2021 census data that indicates at least 3,397 Ipswich residents will be worse off following the Prime Minister’s broken promise.
“The Prime Minister has broken his promise to thousands of Ipswich residents. They will now be worse off because of the Prime Minister and the Labor Government’s broken promise.”
“Before the election, Labor was crystal clear – stage 3 tax cuts were legislated and wouldn’t be touched. That was a solemn election promise. Prime Minister Albanese has now broken that promise.”
“This is not the first time the Prime Minister has broken a promise. He said power prices would fall by $275 per household. They have gone up by 23%. He promised Australians would pay cheaper mortgages, there have been 12 interest rate rises under Labor.”
“How can the people of Ipswich trust the Labor Government when it promises one thing before an election and then does something else after?”
“The Prime Minister has betrayed those Ipswich residents who took him at his word prior to the election. Thousands will now pay more tax.”
