NAIDOC Week 2025

Today is the start of NAIDOC week. The theme this year is: The Next Generation: Strength Vision and Legacy.

I was delighted to attend a flag raising ceremony at the Yamanto Police Station to celebrate the start of the week. There was strong representation from local elders and all three levels of government.

Special shout out to the dance troupe from Bellbird Park State Secondary College who gave a wonderful performance.

Thanks so much to Queensland Police Senior Liaison Officer, Roneece Cupitt. Roneece is a Warumungu woman who has worked all over Queensland and has received recognition for her work in remote communities.

Roneece has been recognised as QPS Liaison Officer of the year for her work and uses the sport of hockey as a vehicle to engage with young people.

Roneece gave a very inspirational speech, including about Len Waters who was the first Aboriginal Austalian to be a fighter pilot. He flew 95 missions during World War Two.
