Media Release – LNP Government To Deliver A Youth And Community Centre In Ipswich

A Dutton LNP Government will provide $5.2 million from a revitalised Safer Communities Fund (SCF) to Village Support Limited to establish a sustainable multi-function youth and community centre in the Greater Ipswich region and to support of early intervention and rehabilitation services.

“Under Labor, youth crime has continued to rise and remains a key issue for residents in our community,” LNP candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, said.

“This funding will help Village Support Limited set-up and facilitate a rehabilitation hub, specifically catering for repeat offenders in the community.

“I’ve heard firsthand from Ipswich residents that safety is a priority, and we’re responding with practical measures to help make public spaces safer for everyone.  This investment will make a real difference in diverting young people from going down the wrong path and providing an opportunity for them to change their lives around.”

Senator for Queensland, Paul Scarr said “The last Liberal National Government was the first to provide support for the Queensland African Community Council to provide these services.  I advocated strongly for that original funding, and it has produced very positive results.  The African Village Model works.  This further funding will empower Village Support Limited, to continue and enhance the services it provides.  It empowers the community to deliver real solutions for young people in our area.”

“I congratulate the team at Village Support Limited, and all of the youth mentors, case managers and everyone else involved in the programme.  I also acknowledge the vision of the Queensland African Communities Council in establishing this programme and thank both the former President Beny Bol OAM who now serves as Managing Director of Village Support Limited and the current President Faysel Selat Ahmed for their leadership.”

Projects delivered under the Safer Communities Fund will help protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems and security lighting.

The revitalised SCF will build on the programme established by the previous LNP Government, delivering grant funding to councils, schools, and local organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance security around community spaces, and promote social cohesion.

This commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get our country Back on Track.
