Media Release – Lnp Government To Deliver A Youth And Community Centre In Ipswich

An elected Dutton Coalition Government will provide $1.2 million from a revitalised Safer Communities Fund (SCF) to Village Support Limited to establish a sustainable and multi-function youth and community centre based in the Greater Ipswich region.

Liberal National Party Candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg said this funding would also help Village Support Limited set-up and facilitate a rehab hub, which would specifically cater for serious repeat offenders in the community, and those that pose significant risk to younger members within our region.

“It’s a devastating statistic, but between 2018-2022, more than 13% of the young offenders inside Brisbane’s Youth Detention Centre were of African descent, with over 90% identifying as being affiliated with a gang”. Carl Mutzelburg said.

“This funding is a direct response to the concerns raised by our community. I’ve heard firsthand from Ipswich residents that safety is a priority, and we’re responding with practical measures to help make public spaces safer for everyone,”

Senator for Queensland, Paul Scarr said “Investing in this project will be beneficial for the Greater Ipswich region, but most importantly, this project will help to tackle the youth crime crisis which is already gripping the entire state of Queensland”.

Projects delivered under the Safer Communities Fund will help protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems and security lighting.

The revitalised SCF will build on the programme established by the previous Coalition Government, delivering grant funding to councils, schools, and local organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance security around community spaces, and promote social cohesion.

This commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get our country Back on Track.
