An elected Liberal and National Government will support Ipswich residents struggling with cost-of-living pressures, as well as those impacted by natural disasters, by delivering a food distribution hub for Ipswich Assist.
LNP Candidate for Blair, Carl Mutzelburg, secured the $325,000 commitment to ensure Ipswich Assist – a not-for profit organisation that provides relief to those struggling within the local community.
“In my discussion with Blair residents it is clear that Labor’s cost-of-living crisis is out of control, which is why we need a charitable food distribution hub here in Ipswich,” Mr Mutzelburg said.
“I believe in giving a helping hand to residents doing it tough, which is why I’ve fought to secure this funding commitment to deliver a new food distribution hub which will serve the community in times of need. The centre will also provide relief to other charitable organisations already stretched thin and feeling the pressure financially.
“I’ll always listen and fight for our community. This project will assist fantastic organisations dealing with the cost-of-living crisis at the coal face.”
Senator Paul Scarr said, “Carl has has a track record of helping people in need, having founded and run a charity that provided food parcels, flood relief and financial literacy programs for the people of Ipswich.
“With more than three out of fours households in the Ipswich and Somerset region under financial stress, Carl is the right candidate for Blair in these difficult times.”
Manager of Ipswich Assist, Jason Budden, said, “Ipswich Assist is grateful to Senator Scarr and LNP candidate Carl Mutzelburg for their commitment to helping charities in Ipswich.
“Their advocacy for funds for proposed upgrades to Ipswich Assist will allow us to have adequate onsite storage and to become a food distribution hub to benefit many charitable works in Ipswich.”
Senator Paul Scarr said “The surge in demand for charities such as Ipswich Assist is a direct result of the Albanese Labor Government’s cost- of- living crisis. With rents, interest rates and electricity prices all going up, we’re so lucky to have Ipswich Assist in our community. I’m pleased a Dutton led Coalition Government has committed to support them, ensuring they can continue the great work they do in our communities”.
