Today I attended the Korean Veterans’ Day service at the Ipswich RSL, honoring those who served and sacrificed.
It was a privilege to meet Mr Hyunseong Shin, representing the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, as we came together for this important occasion.
On 27 July each year, we commemorate Korean Veterans’ Day. This is the anniversary of the day in 1953 when an armistice was signed to end the fighting in Korea.
This day is a time for us to remember the almost 18,000 Australians who served in the war, including some 340 who lost their lives. They fought as part of a United Nations force to defend South Korea against communism, their sacrifice ensured the freedom enjoyed today
