The Morrison Government is investing $2 million to provide much needed facilities upgrades to the Ipswich Showgrounds.
Ipswich-based LNP Senator Paul Scarr, said the funding would enable the Ipswich Show Society to undertake multiple projects as part of its Stage 3 Redevelopment, including upgrades to amenities and facilities for animal health and wellbeing.
“This is not an election promise – this funding is being delivered now and will enable the works to start later this year, supporting local jobs and the local economy,” Senator Scarr said.
“The Ipswich Showgrounds is a true Ipswich icon. In making this announcement, I pay tribute to the Committee and hundreds of volunteers who work every year to make the Ipswich Show such a special event and selflessly provide their time throughout the year”, he said.
Ipswich Show Society President, Darren Zanow welcomed the Morrison Government’s support for the showgrounds which he says plays a vital role in the Ipswich community and the broader region.
“Outside of the Annual Show, the Showground facilities are a critical infrastructure that has supported the community through floods, bushfires, wars and pandemics”.
In the recent floods, the Ipswich Showgrounds were turned into a temporary emergency relief centre for the local community, providing temporary housing for hundreds of people and their animals.
“We are very excited about this funding which will enable us to provide a more comfortable experience for show-goers, as well as the many other groups which use our facilities throughout the year. Importantly, the funding will also benefit our animal visitors, with upgrades to animal welfare enclosures”.
“The investment means we can make much needed improvements to our facilities now in time for our 150th Show in 2023”, said Mr Zanow.
LNP candidate for Blair, Sam Biggins, said “The Morrison Government continues to deliver for the Ipswich community and this project is part of our plan to create 1.3 million jobs over the next five years, building a strong economy and a stronger future”.
