Media Release – LRCIP Media Op Mayor Harding & Sen Scarr

Ten shovel-ready projects are set to begin in Ipswich thanks to funding from the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP).

Mayor Teresa Harding said it was a huge boost to the region and would help promote jobs, growth and investment.

“I am very pleased to advise that Ipswich City Council has received a notification of approval of the Work Schedule and Eligible Projects List for the $7.37m allocation under the LRCIP (Phase 2),” she said.

“Council is committed to partnering with the Australian Government to deliver vital infrastructure and continue to stimulate the local economy during the pandemic recovery.

“This approval will see the delivery of 10 local projects across the city. The estimated cost of all projects is $8.67m and work is scheduled for completion by December 2021.”

Mayor Harding thanked Queensland LNP Senator Paul Scarr for his work in securing the vital funding. The pair met at one of the worksites today, Bremer Street, Ipswich, where footpaths, bikepaths and walkways are being upgraded with the funding.

“I would like to extend my thanks again for supporting local investment on behalf of council and the Ipswich community,” she said.

“It goes to show what can be achieved when the different levels of government work together at securing positive outcomes for Ipswich.

“Sen Scarr has been a big supporter of the city and I was delighted that he was able to attend our recent working group summit, which featured all the elected representatives of Ipswich at the region and local, state and federal levels, hosted by council.

“He has provided valuable insight on priority projects and how to work with Canberra to achieve the desired results as we continue to grow at unprecedented rates.”

Sen Scarr said he was very pleased the Federal Government was partnering with Ipswich Council and providing $7.37 million for important local works – through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

“The Morrison Government is committed to supporting the Ipswich community with these up-grades to roads and footpaths, bicycle and walking paths and local sporting facilities,” Senator Paul Scarr said.

“The funding from the Federal Government is helping support and stimulate the Ipswich economy during the COVID19 pandemic recovery with ten local projects to be completed by December.”
