Ipswich region residents, community groups and businesses will benefit from major upgrades to two pavilions at Ipswich Showgrounds costing $8.9 million to create the new Ipswich Events Centre.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Australian Government’s $8.9 million investment in community infrastructure would provide long-term benefits to the Ipswich region.
“Not only does this investment provide improved facilities for the community for shows and expos, community and cultural events, the Events Centre could also be used for emergency evacuation and disaster relief,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“The project supported 497 jobs during construction. In addition to using local businesses and supplies, this project will help bring prosperity to Ipswich for many years to come.”
Local LNP Senator Paul Scarr said the new Events Centre was an outstanding project for the Ipswich region and was fully-funded under the Morrison Government’s Community Development Grants Program.
“This first phase, has renovated two showground pavilions and gained State development approval for a new Convention, Exhibition and Emergency Evacuation Centre, while the second phase includes acquisition of the land and construction of the new Centre, the design of which included planning for the 2032 Olympic Games,” Sen Scarr said.
Sen Scarr said current community infrastructure in Ipswich was not up to supporting the rapid growth of the City of Ipswich and the region, especially during emergency or disaster events.
“The funding of this important project is proof positive the Morrison Government is committed to supporting the Ipswich region, its residents, community groups and businesses in what is the fastest-growing region of the State.”
Ipswich Show Grounds are used by more than 200 community organisations.
