This afternoon, I joined elected representatives from all three levels of government in welcoming new Australian citizens at the Ipswich Civic Centre in not one, but two ceremonies!
Citizenship ceremonies are a powerful reminder of the values that unite us – our democratic values, respect for the rights and liberties of our fellow Australians and the rule of law.
As I said to all the new citizens: “not only did you find Australia, but Australia found you!” A special thank you to Elise Ray, who sang a beautiful rendition of I Still Call Australia Home.
Congratulations to all those who took this important step today, and to their families and friends who supported them along the way!
