Ipswich Assist Expands to Meet Growing Need for Assistance

Ipswich based charity, Ipswich Assist, has expanded its office space by moving into a new building in South Street.

In opening the new premises, locally based Senator Paul Scarr paid tribute to the staff, volunteers and Board.  Senator Scarr referred to them as the “heart and soul” of the organisation which has helped more than 2850 people in the last 12 months.

Ipswich Assist provides food parcels, utility bill payments and rent assistance.  Over the last 12 months, approximately 750 people have attended Ipswich Assist’s regular Wednesday lunch.

Ipswich Assist Manager, Jason Budden said: “These people have been offered more than a hot meal: they have received support from food hampers and assistance with practical goods as well”.

“The new location has also enabled us to increase the size of ReSTORE, our small supermarket. This provides the people of Ipswich with a cheap alternative to purchase their staple food products relieving stress on household budgets.  It also frees up money to help people stay on top of their debts while still eating healthy meals.”

Senator Scarr thanked Ipswich Assist’s partner agencies, Foodbank Qld, Second Bite, OzHarvest, and the Fareshare foundation.

“I encourage everyone in the community to get behind Ipswich Assist.  They make sure each dollar goes a long way and they give help in a way which preserves the dignity of everyone seeking assistance.”
