Women Veterans Network Australia will receive $8550 to publish stories and artworks commemorating the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service women, under the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service grants program to recognise the region’s military service history.
Senator Paul Scarr welcomed the ongoing community interest in recognising their local service, with a wide variety of projects being funded.
“A community’s military history, through those who have served or continue to serve, is part of its identity,” Senator Scarr said.
“By involving community groups, such as our ex-service organisations, in commemorations we can ensure this history is never forgotten, and these grants help to achieve this.
“This will allow the Women Veterans Network Australia to publish a collection of stories, essays, poems, letters, emails, photos and artwork that commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service women.”
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said the funding would provide a boost to the region’s efforts, as they prepare for Anzac Day commemorations.
“Australia has a proud history of remembering those who have served our nation, their families and those who wear the military uniform today,” Mr Chester said.
“I congratulate the Women Veterans Network Australia on its successful application to carry on this proud legacy of remembrance.
“With commemorations approaching for the end of the Second World War, this is also an opportunity for organisations to apply for the next grant funding round to mark this important commemorative anniversary.”
You can submit your application now for the next funding round, which closes on 31 March 2020. To apply or find out more visit the Saluting Their Service Commemoration Program page on the Community Grants Hub.
