Today is National Citizenship Day. A celebration of what it means to be Australian. To become an Australian citizen, people pledge: From this time forward, under God, I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people, whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and liberties I respect, and whose laws I will uphold and obey. Hence, today is a day to reflect on the common values we hold as Australians. These common values are the powerful bond that unites us all. They form the foundation stone of our multicultural society – it does not matter where you come from, your ethnicity, your religion – we are united by common values. Happy National Citizenship Day.
