Media Release – More Help For Ipswich And Somerset Businesses Hit By COVID-19

Local Senator Paul Scarr has welcomed the extra help for Ipswich and Somerset businesses hit by COVID-19 announced in the Queensland support package this afternoon.

Senator Scarr said the 50/50 funding agreement between the Commonwealth and Queensland Governments would see the value of the Queensland COVID-19 Business Support Grants rise from $260 million to $600 million.

Senator Scarr said the additional support for Ipswich and Somerset businesses that had suffered a decline in turnover of more than 30 per cent included:

  • A $1,000 one-off grant to non-employing sole traders;
  • Payroll-based support for all businesses;
  • A $5,000 one-off, top-up grant to small business with payroll of less than $1.3 million;
  • A $10,000 one-off, top-up grant to medium sized business with payroll between $1.3 million and $10 million; and
  • A $25,000 one-off, top-up grant to large sized tourism and hospitality focused businesses only with payroll of greater than $10 million.

Senator Scarr said the new business support package recognised the impact of lockdowns.

“The Morrison Government recognises the impact lockdowns are having on businesses in Queensland, including businesses in the Ipswich and Somerset region which I represent,” Senator Scarr said.
