Whilst counting is continuing in the Senate, it is clear that the LNP has returned two Senators for Queensland. I give thanks to all of those Queenslanders who voted for the LNP team in the Senate.
To the thousands of volunteers who assisted us throughout Queensland, thank you. You inspire me.
I am truly humbled to have the opportunity to serve the people of Queensland for another six years. My congratulations to Senator Susan McDonald who has been returned. Susan and I were elected together for the first time in 2019 and it is incredibly special to be re-elected with Susan in 2025.
Susan has done an outstanding job as Shadow Minister for Resources and Northern Australia. I know Susan will make an outstanding contribution in the next Parliament. I would like to thank all the other members of the Senate ticket. Stuart Fraser did an outstanding job as our number three on the ticket. It was also an honour to campaign with Sophia Li, Yvonne Tunney and Peter Zhuang who filled the remaining spots on the Senate ticket. Thank you.
I pay tribute to all of the LNP members and candidates across Queensland. I saw first hand how hard you worked. I am deeply saddened that some of my friends and colleagues have lost their seats. Each and every one of you has so much more to offer our beautiful country.
Thank you to Peter Dutton and his family for their incredible service to Australia. I have known Peter since our time in the Young Liberals many years ago. Peter has served our country with great distinction at the highest levels. Peter could not have been more gracious in his concession speech on Saturday night.
We now reflect, regroup and refocus. It is our obligation to be an effective Opposition holding the Government to account.
It is our obligation to be true to our values and to develop policies in accordance with those values.
It is our obligation to keep working hard doing the best we possibly can for our communities and our beautiful country.
