An elected Coalition Government will provide $900,000 to the Jindalee Jags to upgrade their clubhouse, lighting and scoreboards to meet the demands of growing membership.
Since 1971, the Jindalee Jags have been a major part of the Australian Rules Football scene of Brisbane’s Western Corridor. The Jindalee Jags is a family club and have been so for over 50 years. It now has over 890 active members across AFL, Netball and Little Athletics.
Liberal National Party Candidate for Oxley, Kevin Burns says, “The Jindalee Jags was the first club in Brisbane to offer an All-Abilities Program which opens AFL up to those with a disability. Last year, Jindalee Jags became an early adopter of the Women & Girls community Football Charter – the first club in Australia to sign on which is an amazing feat”.
He continued “As well as being the first club in the Centenary Suburbs back in 1971, the Jindalee Jags were the first club in the Brisbane region to recognise the interest and potential of girls and women in Australian Rules Football. This election commitment recognises the great work the Jindalee Jags does in the community and provides the opportunity for the club to provide appropriate facilities for current and future members.”
Senator for Queensland, Paul Scarr said “Sport is vital for our communities because it fosters social connections, improves physical and mental health, and contributes to player well-being. By providing these upgrades, the Jindalee Jags will be able to continue building stronger community bonds in Oxley”.
He continued “This funding means that the Jindalee Jags can continue to actively engage with the local community through their various initiatives, fostering a passion for football and teamwork. It’s only an elected Coalition Government that will invest in grass roots sporting clubs here in Oxley”.
This commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to strengthen our local communities and get our country Back on Track.
