Today I had the honour of being the presiding officer at Citizenship Ceremony hosted by the Rotary Club of Sunnybank. It is the greatest honour a parliamentarian has.
It is an honour to lead new conferees through the citizenship pledge as they pledge loyalty to Australia and its people, our democratic principles, our rights and liberties and rule of law.
The joy of the new citizens and their families is very moving.
As I say to each of the new citizens at each ceremony:
“Not only did you find Australia, but Australia found you”
