Celebrating Waitangi at Twilight

Last night, the Kingston Butter Factory was filled with the sounds, flavors, and spirit of Aotearoa as we came together for ‘Waitangi at Twilight’—a celebration of Māori culture, heritage, and unity.

I was fortunate to experience the Pōwhiri (Official Welcome), a powerful and moving tradition that sets the tone for an evening of song, dance, and storytelling. From the rhythmic beats of the haka to the warmth of shared kai (food), the event was a true reflection of the rich cultural pride and deep sense of community that defines Waitangi Day.

A huge thank you to Mary Johnson, President of Te Korowai Aroha, for her dedication and leadership in bringing this incredible event to life year after year. Her hard work does not go unnoticed!

Ngā mihi nui (many thanks) to all who made the night so special!
