Westside Community Care (WCC) needs all the generosity the local community can muster to help needy families send their children back to school.
Westside Community Care Director, Pastor Phil Cutcliffe, said of all the practical assistance the charity provides, back-to-school support was near the top for many families – even $50 to $100 can make a huge difference with uniforms, school shoes, bags and books, or state school fees.
“Christmas can be a very stressful time for families trying to provide gifts for children … it’s even more important to make sure children have the books and materials for school,” Pastor Cutcliffe said.
“it’s not optional. Kids really suffer if they don’t have the proper resources, and that’s why it’s so really important to give families the support they need, particularly with their booklists.”
Local Senator Paul Scarr said the charity was aiming to raise $5000 to help 100 families with free school supplies at Westside Community Care’s on-site “shopping day” on Wednesday, February 2, at 389 Old Logan Road, Camira.
“Because this is such a worthwhile cause, I’m asking our local community to help with whatever they can afford, and I’ll personally match donations up to the first $2000,” Senator Scarr said.
“It’s so important for every child in our local community to start school with what they need, and as a local Senator, I know how generous this community is with help for needy families.”
Phil Cutcliffe said donations were tax deductible to:
The WCC Gift Account: 20030551 BSB 124001 (please email to request an invoice/receipt).
Alternatively, donations of school supplies (stationery, school bags, school shoes, uniforms, lunch boxes or other educational supplies) or services to help families get their children back to school or anything of value that could be auctioned to raise funds were very welcome.
Contact WCC if you, or anyone you know, needs a grant. (Local residents attending Greater Springfield – Camira – Goodna, Redbank Schools will receive priority)
