110th Anniversary Battle of Fromelles Commemorative Service

Thank you to the Ipswich RSL Sub Branch for the opportunity to attend this morning’s 110th Anniversary Battle of Fromelles Commemorative Service.

The Battle of Fromelles was one of Australia’s darkest days of the First World War, with 5,533 casualties in just 24 hours – thought to be the greatest losses suffered by any division in the First World War in a 24 hour period.

There were 1,335 soldiers missing – the remains of many of whom would never be identified.

We also heard a special song composed in honour of the veterans of the battle, a moving tribute to those who served and sacrificed.

Thank you to everyone involved in ensuring the courage, sacrifice and service of those who fought at Fromelles continues to be remembered.
