Media Release – Modern Manufacturing Initiative – Collaboration Stream

The Morrison Government is offering $800 million to co-fund up to one-third of eligible projects aimed at boosting output and competitiveness in National Manufacturing Priority (NMP) areas.

Senator Paul Scarr said Ipswich was home to manufacturers in the six NMP areas of resources technology and critical minerals processing, food and beverage manufacturing, medical products, recycling and clean energy, defence and space, and he encouraged any looking to expand to apply.

Senator Scarr said the $800 million Manufacturing Collaboration Stream was the largest component of the Modern Manufacturing Initiative – centrepiece of the Morrison Government’s $1.5 billion Modern Manufacturing Strategy.

He said Manufacturing Collaboration Stream grants of $20 million to $200 million were available to  support large-scale projects that would transform the manufacturing sector by increasing collaboration, and building scale to enhance growth and competitiveness.

He said potential applicants could begin preparing their applications by reading the guidelines and using the sample application form available at: business.gov.au/mmic

Applications could be lodged from 11 August 2021 and close on 9 September 2021.

Round One – Supply Chain Resilience Initiative

Senator Scarr said the Morrison Government wasn’t just interested in supporting larger manufacturing projects – with $50 million in grants on offer under the Supply Chain Resilience Initiative (SCRI) to build Australia’s supply chain capabilities.

“Funding grants between $50,000 and $2,000,000 are available for building manufacturing capability through co-investing in new equipment, technology, skills and processes,” he said.

Senator Scarr said applications should be guided by the Sovereign Manufacturing Capability Plan which outlines potential supply chain vulnerabilities for critical products, and opportunities for Australian businesses to redress them.

He said the SCRI will provide funding to support Australian businesses to build their manufacturing capabilities through co-investments across two categories:

• medicines

• agricultural production chemicals.

Applications close on 12 August 2021.
