Media Release – Send A Strong Message At Ipswich West By-Election

Locally based LNP Senator Paul Scarr says the Ipswich West by-election is a unique opportunity for Ipswich residents to send a strong message to the Queensland Labor Government.

“The people of Ipswich are tired of being taken for granted by the State Labor Government. This by-election provides a unique opportunity to say enough is enough. Ipswich deserves its fair share.”

“In this by-election, there will be a strong focus on local issues like never before. It is vital that the local community takes advantage of this opportunity.”

“One of the main issues is transport infrastructure. Ipswich residents have been expected to bear the burden of great population growth without the supporting transport infrastructure. It is not good enough.”

“There must be a commitment to fixing the Mount Crosby Interchange. Not words, but a funding commitment and a concrete timeline to construction. It is a disgrace that this has not been fixed in the nine years of a Labor State Government.”

“The Transport and Mains Road website provides details of the number of accidents that have occurred in recent times. Between 2015 and 2020, there were 44 crashes recorded on the Warrego Highway near the Mount Crosby Interchange (one kilometre either side). The majority are rear ending or changing lane accidents. The population has only increased since then.”

“The Ipswich Region cannot be expected to take greater and greater population increases without the needed infrastructure. The Mt Crosby Interchange is “exhibit A” of the State Labor Government’s failure to provide the infrastructure Ipswich needs.”

“The residents of Ipswich West have an opportunity at this by-election to say: it is not good enough.”
