Media Release – $1.1 Million For Lowood Minden Road In The Somerset Region

Somerset Regional Council will receive more than $1.1 million dollars to widen and strengthen 1.3 kilometres of Lowood Minden Road.

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce visited Lowood and Minden to announce the funding, with the Somerset one of 28 regions across Australia sharing in $56.2 million under the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.

The Deputy Prime Minister joined Sam Biggins, LNP Candidate for Blair, and representatives from Somerset Regional Council, on Lowood-Minden Road.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said he was thrilled with the announcement.

“We are absolutely ecstatic about this $1.1 million Australian Government funding commitment for Lowood Minden Road,” he said.

“Lowood Minden Road is the busiest local road in Somerset with more than 3000 vehicles per day and the traffic is growing as fast as Somerset is growing.

“Research tells us that widening high traffic rural roads to include regulation sealed shoulders like this project will reduce casualty crash risk by 41 per cent.
